We’re #1 Again
Walton EMC is again the Southeast’s top utility developer of major solar projects, according to the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (SACE).
The co-op ranked first on SACE’s Sunriser list, which identifies electricity providers experiencing the greatest solar energy growth. This is the fifth consecutive year SACE has named Walton EMC a solar leader among utilities in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
The co-op is projected to generate 7,851 watts of solar power per customer by 2026. “It’s a significant achievement for our co-op to again be recognized for having the region’s highest solar-to-customer ratio,” said CEO Ron Marshall.
Walton EMC has earned a reputation for supporting new industry with renewable power solutions.
“Developing a resourceful renewable strategy and negotiating unique utility-scale power contracts with global brands has positioned us as one of the country’s most innovative and respected electric cooperatives,” Marshall said.
Walton EMC and partner Silicon Ranch are supplying 100% renewable energy for Meta’s Facebook data center in Newton County. Seven solar facilities have already been installed throughout Georgia in support of the contract. This number will grow to 10 over the next three years.
Co-op leaders are committed to seeking out more clean energy partnerships, Marshall said.
“Many large corporations now seek 100% renewable energy contracts,” he said. “This will continue to aggressively expand the solar portion of our energy mix.”
