Stone Mountain is the first Amazon distribution center in Georgia to use state-of-the-art robotics technology. Hundreds of robotic “drive units,” able to carry 1,500 pounds each, read barcodes for directions and zoom around on wheels to move shelves of merchandise to help employees efficiently fill orders.

The four-story, 650,000-square-foot warehouse is Amazon’s largest facility in the metro Atlanta area. It sits on a 93-acre site in South Gwinnett County near Highway 78.

Amazon currently operates 11 distribution centers in Georgia, with another set to open next year. The company has 185 fulfillment centers worldwide.

The fulfillment center processes orders 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Amazon is the largest corporate buyer of renewable energy in the U.S. and the world. The company has announced its commitment to power all operations with 100 percent renewable energy by 2025. The company selected Walton EMC to power its Stone Mountain facility, in part, for its leadership in generating solar energy.

The distribution center spans the length of 12 football fields.

About 5,000 full-time employees work at the center, filling several hundred thousand orders daily. Another 500 temporary workers are lending a hand for the holiday season.
