Through our partnership with Power Partners Solar (PPS), Walton EMC customer-owners can purchase a state-of-the-art solar water

heating system that saves money and helps the environment.

Water heating is the second largest item of the typical family’s energy budget. Using solar energy to do the job will drastically reduce energy bills.

Several Incentives Available

By the time you add our rebate and other tax credits, the cost of the system is reduced by almost two-thirds.

  • $400 rebate from Walton EMC on PPS solar water heating systems purchased through the co-op. The solar system must utilize electric backup or supplement an electric water heater or totally replace a gas water heater.
  • 30 percent Federal tax credit (up to $2,000)
  • 35 percent state tax credit (up to $2,500 on pre-approval.

The cost of materials for a system serving four to five people is $4,500. All this means typical paybacks shrink to less than eight years.

If you don’t want to put out the investment up front, Walton EMC will even loan the money at prime rate through our Prime PowerLoan program.

Save Even More

By coupling the PPS solar water heater with WEMC’s Marathon water heater, you’ll have the most economical production and storage system possible.

And if you’re replacing an existing gas water heater, Walton EMC offers an additional $200 rebate. That’s on top of the $400 solar water heating rebate.

Next Steps

Determine if your home is a good candidate for a PPS solar water heating system:

  1. See if there's a south-facing area on your roof that's free of shade where the panel can be mounted.
  2. Determine if it's possible to run piping from the solar panels to the water heater. Not every exisitng home will be a good application–installing during home construction is perferred. The piping route may go through the roof, attic and living space.
  3. If you'll be replacing a gas water heater, make sure it's possible to install a 30 amp, 240 volt electrical circuit to the new tank.
  4. Complete My Solar Estimator.
  5. Read the information for System 4 and System 5.
The Power Partners Solar system sits quietly and unobtrusively on a south-facing roof exposure. By offering 26 color choices, the panel’s trim blends into any color scheme.
